Oppo unveils the Find N foldable flagship device

Nearly three years after showing off its prototype device, Oppo has unveiled its first foldable smartphone called the Find N. According to Oppo, the Find N was created “four years of intense R&D and six generations of prototypes.” The company will have a full launch event for the device on December 15th at Oppo Inno Day.

The Chinese tech giant has gone with a similar design to the Samsung Galaxy Fold devices, unfolding into a tablet-sized device. The teaser doesn’t reveal any internal specs like the processor, RAM or battery details. However, it does promise a “beautiful” device that feels good in the hand, and will be simple to use in both the open and closed positions.

Oppo claims that it has solved any screen creasing or durability during the R&D process, which is a major issue still plaguing foldable devices.

Oppo is also expected to reveal a slew of other products at Oppo Inno Day. They will launch a “cutting-edge” neural processing unit (NPU) and new smart glasses, presumably a follow-up to the Oppo AR Glass released towards the end of the year, which are developer-only Wayfarer-type glasses with 0.71-inch OLED panels meant to be connected to Android devices via a USB cable.

While Samsung launched their foldable range more than two years ago, the product was perhaps not ready for the mass market. It used early reviews and user feedback to shape the products going forward. The Z Flip has arguably been launched as a more complete product than the original Fold. Oppo’s strategy is very different here, opting to wait until it feels the product is completely ready.
