Nintendo is working on a strange new controller

Nintendo is working on an interesting new Bluetooth controller design, based on a new FCC listing. It has been given the name HAC-043, which is, interestingly, one digit higher than the wireless SNES controller from 2019.

Nintendo submitted a 180-day request for confidentiality to the FCC on July 26th that hides more revealing details of the device, like photos and actual schematics. But we know some details, like the fact that it is wireless and works with Bluetooth and will draw more power than the current Joy-Con’s on the Nintendo Switch (3.5mW vs. 2.7mW).

It isn’t known what device or console this new controller will be partnering, but it has been speculated that it would be for another old console revamp like the SNES. It is clear that Nintendo is focusing on its retro gaming gear, so perhaps we could be getting a new revamped version of the N64 or the GameCube.

The other possibility is that it will be for the upcoming Nintendo Switch Pro, which is expected to launch before the end of the year. It is rumoured that the new OLED Switch will have a redesigned Pro controller, which will be more comfortable to use than a disconnected Joy-Con. It will look more like a traditional console controller.
