Display technology has been changing and evolving quickly, which makes the latest concept choice a bit curious. It has shown off a new concept with a “quad-curved waterfall display”, in a time when most smartphone manufacturers are moving away from the curved-edge displays. Most users prefer a flat display, as the usable space is greater, with none of that distortion on the edge image.
The Chinese company has said that sourcing a screen that could do the trick is pretty simple now that flexible display panels have grown more common. However, they had to manufacture an 88° quad-curved glass panel which had to be bonded to the underlying display. Xiaomi says that the process of correctly shaping glass layers like this involved in-house processing equipment, 800-degree heat, multiple polishing tools and thousands of attempts.
