King Price sponsors first-ever Mobile Photography Awards

King Price (yes, the guys who offer car insurance premiums that decrease monthly) have announced their involvement in the first-ever South African Mobile Photography Awards. The company has teamed up with photographer Albert Bredenhann to bring the awards to life.

Albert’s inspiration to establish this platform for photographers who use their camera phones, rather than traditional camera bodies and lenses, is inspired by mobile technology. ‘‘Smartphones have taken over the world of photography,” he says. “And for good reason. Not only do they have spectacular cameras, but they also let you edit, share and store your photos in just a few taps! It’s time to take smartphone photography in South Africa to the next level, and this competition will help us do that.”

For what is an interesting and different move for local insurance provider, King Price, as the main sponsor is giving away R150,000 in prize money, with R35,000 (and a brand-new Rugged Smartphone sponsored by Blackview) all set to go to the overall winner. It doesn’t end there as category (listed below) winners will walk away with R5,000 each:

  • Portraits
  • Animal kingdom
  • Architecture and design
  • Black and white
  • Macro and detail
  • Street photography
  • Landscapes and nature
  • People and abstract

Also sponsoring a special category called ‘Afrikaans’ is Maroela Media with judges in this category set to look at the photo that best captures the Afrikaans culture.

Entries are open to all SA citizens (whether they live in SA or abroad) from 1 November 2020 until 15 January 2021. If you are interested in entering then simply click here. After this, the general public will have a solitary month to vote for their favourite photos with the judges set to announce the winners on 26th February 2021.
