The rumour mill always begins turning ahead of an imminent Apple event, and this year is no different – and apart from leaks suggesting Apple’s iPhone 12 may be cheaper than the iPhone 11, another interesting tidbit is that the Cupertino company may or may not choose to release a new, over-the-ear version of its popular AirPods.
Dubbed the AirPods Studio, the headset will reportedly ship in two distinct versions – one premium, and one more affordable. Apparently, the luxury edition of the headset will feature a minimalistic leather and metal design.

The renders that I shared last month seem to be the luxury variant — made of leather/metal.
I’m being told they’ll retail for…. $599 😳
There will be another sport-like variant made of cheaper materials for $350.

While some sources suggest that Apple won’t reveal the headsets at its October 13th event, speculation remains in the air.
According to leaks, the premium variant of the Studio headphones will retail for $599 USD – marking one of the first few occaisions in which Apple is beginning to cannabalize its Beats range which it purchased some years ago.
Other news suggests that the Studio range will feature magnetic ear cups, will be reversible – thus enabling the headset to be worn either way – and in traditional Apple fashion won’t feature a headphone jack. Interestingly, reports have indicated that the device will carry a USB Type-C port.
Whether Apple will choose to flight the device at tomorrow’s event remain anyone’s guess – though some sources have suggested that should the headphones be presented, the company’s long-rumoured AirTags would be delayed until 2021.
