The Google Pixel 5 won’t be much better than the Pixel 4a

We are less than a week away from the expected launch of the Google Pixel 4a 5G and the Google Pixel 5. The Pixel 4a 5G won’t be different to the already launched Pixel 4a, other than the new connectivity option and an additional camera. The Google Pixel 5 is a much anticipated sequel to last year’s Android flagship, although this year around it won’t be a flagship.

This news comes from leaks from European retailers than confirm previous rumours that the Pixel 5 will not have flagship specs.

From the UK’s BT we see an online listing for the Pixel 4a 5G that is priced at £499, which falls in line with the expected $499 cost across the pond. It doesn’t share any specs of the device, but does indicate that the device will be available from the 15th of October.

We then get details from a German ecommerce site that shows more colour options of the 4a 5G, but also of the Pixel 5. The Pixel 5 will be available in black and white while the 4a 5G will release in green and black. The devices are priced at €629 and €499 respectively.

This confirms previous rumours that indicated that we won’t be getting a new flagship Google phone. Rather, they are focusing on delivering the best possible camera and screen experience with the new Pixel 5, at a more affordable price. Both the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, both feature 5G and dual cameras, but the 5 will set itself apart with more RAM, a higher refresh rate and a more compact, premium design.
