The original Crysis launched back in 2007 and immediately became the yardstick by which people measured the power of their PC. The CryEngine platform delivered the best graphics from any game engine, which means you needed serious performance to run it at full tilt. The same will be the case with Crysis Remastered, a relaunch of the original game on a new CryEngine.

According to developer Crytek, who is remastering the game alongside Saber Interactive, the new game will include textures up to 8K, HDR support, motion blur, more light settings and updated particle effects. So, the adage of “can your PC run Crysis?” will very well still be applicable when Crysis Remastered launches on September 18th, 2020.
The game will also be relaunched on other platforms, including PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X and the Switch version has already launched. The latter doesn’t have the hardware grunt you would expect to run the game, but the Crytek engine is able to accommodate a wide range of hardware. The remastered version will launch on all platforms for $30.
In case you never played the original, it’s your typical super-powered human versus North Korea and advanced extra-terrestrial story. You play as protagonist Jake “Nomad” Dunn who uses as nanosuit with immense power. The locale, enemies and gameplay all made it a great demonstration of hardware power and immersive gameplay, and the game was acclaimed by fans and critics alike. Funnily enough, the original’s story takes place in August 2020. Where are our nanosuits?
There were two sequels to Crysis, the last of which was released in 2013. Crysis Remastered was originally earmarked for an earlier release, but the developer held it back to polish some of the visuals. “This extra time until release will allow us to get Crysis Remastered up to the PC- and console-breaking standard you’ve come to expect from Crysis games,” the company said.
