It’s only been a couple of weeks since the launch of the Google Pixel 4a, the company’s much-loved budget device with flagship camera performance. Google isn’t done for the year, however. We’re expecting the Google Pixel 5 to be launched sometime in October, and the first proper leaks of the upcoming flagship have surfaced.

The leaks come from our old friends, @OnLeaks and Pricebaba. The design hasn’t changed significantly since the Pixel 4 of last year, other than a much better looking display with smaller bezels. It has no notch, replaced by a hole-punch cut-out for the first time. It also retains the fingerprint scanner on the rear, possibly the last flagship device to go down this route.

The camera module on the back is also very similar to what we’ve seen before, with the same square-shaped stovetop (as they used to be called) containing what appears to be two cameras, the obligatory flash and another sensor – likely to be a time-of-flight sensor.
It is also thought that the device will have the same camera array as last year, meaning the primary camera is paired with a telephoto. We would much prefer a wide-angle lens instead, or even both. At the price we are likely to pay for it, you would expect that at least. Hopefully it is priced a bit more aggressively than other $1,000 flagships.

According to the leaks, the Google Pixel 5 will have a 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch display. This would be surprising, as the budget Pixel 4a has a 5.8-inch display as well. It could lead to some product confusion and potential cannibalisation of sales. Other flagships all have larger displays, setting themselves apart from the rest of their line-up.
The button layouts also seem to be very similar to previous devices, as you can see in the renders video. Are you excited for the latest Google flagship? Are you disappointed with the ‘boring’ design? Let us know in the comments below.
