With Tesla starting to turn profits after many years of losses as it ramped up its manufacturing capabilities, they are looking to new vehicle segments. We are very excited about the new Tesla Roadster, yet that will only be available for purchase in 2022 and very expensive, no doubt. But right around the corner is the new Cybertruck electric bakkie, or pickup as they call them in the US, which will be unveiled on November 21st.
According to Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, this new Cybertruck electric bakkie supposedly looks like something straight out of ‘Blade Runner’. This is apt, as the cult classic Sci-Fi movie from 1982 took place in November of 2019.

The new car will be unveiled on the same lot as the SpaceX headquarters. The Cybertruck electric bakkie has been a long time coming from Tesla – they see this market as a huge opportunity in the US, which has a massive pickup culture.
According to Musk, this new pickup does not only stand out in terms of design, but will also be able to perform on the levels of an entry level Porsche 911. Now that’s a big claim for large, lumbering electric pickup.
According to various statements made by Tesla over the last couple of years, it will cost around $50,000 and offer between 400 and 500 miles of range depending on variant. It will also be able to tow more than any other car in its segment, likening it in size to the Ford F-150.
Even though electric cars are picking up in popularity around the world, it still makes up less than 2 percent of total sales. Tesla is trying to change this significantly with the pickup, but also the cheaper Model 3 that is ramping up production significantly.
