Leaked images from WhatsApp’s beta program reveals that the ability to edit or recall messages entirely could soon arrive on the platform.
We’ve all probably sent a clanger over WhatsApp at least once or twice before – and now leaked images from WhatsApp’s latest beta version reveal that in the future we might be able to edit or recall messages entirely.
The images, which stem from WhatsApp’s Android beta program, reveal that users may one day have the ability to edit WhatsApp messages that have been sent but have not been read. The idea functions somewhat similarly to Skype, which allows users to edit messages after delivery with the view of correcting typos or adding more context.

Users will be able to edit a message by holding down on applicable text, heading over to ‘Edit’ on the menu, and amending their message in a text bar that will appear on the main chat menu.
On the other hand, sometimes there’s just no recourse from sending a particular message – to that end, WhatsApp will apparently allow users to tap on a message and recall it so long as it hasn’t been read.
In this instance, messages that have been scrapped will read “Message recalled” – though it is unclear if a recipient will be able to see that an incoming message has in fact been pulled.
The feature is one of several that exist within WhatsApp’s testing program. Another, confusingly dubbed Status, would reportedly add a Snapchat-style Stories feature to the popular messaging app.
