Instagram has officially debuted its Universal Windows App on board the Windows 10 Store, where the service can now be accessed from the desktop.
Instagram could very well hold an award for its long beta gestation aboard Windows Phone, but now it would seem the wait has paid off; the social network has debuted its Universal Windows App on the Windows 10 Store, making the app officially available on the desktop for the first time.
Instagram is hence now available on the Windows 10 Store and can be installed on your Windows 10 PC, hybrid, or laptop – Xbox and HoloLens support has yet to be announced.

Instagram added support for Microsoft’s Continuum feature earlier in July this year – Continuum allows apps to function across different Windows devices such as computers or smartphones.
The app sports all the features its smartphone client carries, save for the ability to take images and upload them. Images can be uploaded post capture so long as they are present in the Windows 10 Camera Roll folder.
One will be able to view photos, send direct messages, leave comments, and notification support remains intact.
The move marks the first time Instagram has been officially available on the desktop – thought it might not be the last. Changes to Instagram’s API this year left a number of desktop clients on macOS (then OS X) unable to function, leaving the possibility of the app’s arrival on the platform wide open. The move would fit with Facebook’s decision to open Instagram to wider markets – as seen with the addition of the Snapchat-like Instagram Stories feature.
