Samsung has officially released the Gear S3; it’s newest Tizen smartwatch which arrives in both ‘Classic’ and ‘Frontier’ flavours.
We felt Samsung did an amazing job with the Gear S2, and now the Gear S3 has landed. The newest version of Samsung’s Tizen smartwatch (which we feel looks pretty damn great) arrives in two flavours; the ‘Classic’ edition arrives with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, while the ‘Frontier’ version arrives with LTE support. Both, thankfully, support GPS.
The Frontier model is unique for including an Always-On Super AMOLED display, and has a more rugged chassis. True to it’s name, this is the device that will appeal to those who want a smartwatch for the great outdoors.

Both smartwatches will sell in a 46mm solid steel case (for comparison, that’s noticeably larger than the 42mm Apple Watch) while both will support conventional watch straps sized at 22mm. Further, both carry a 380 mAh battery that Samsung claims will last upwards of three days on a single charge.
The Gear S3 range includes IP-68 water resistance, as well as activity tracking support, a barometer and speedometer, support for Samsung Pay, as well as built-in speakers. For those with butter fingers, the Gear S3 sports Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ which is scratch resistant.
Here’s a treat for Gear S2 owners; Samsung have announced that all software updates headed to the Gear S3 will be available on its predecessor as well. The Korean company have yet to announce pricing, and might well wait until Apple unveils its second-generation Apple Watch to do so.
