Facebook's earnings report shows continuing, staggering growth

Facebook’s Q2 earnings report has revealed that the social network continues to reach new heights, and has accumulated 1.7 billion users.

What’s cooler than a million users? 1.7 billion monthly users, to be precise. That’s the kind of growth Facebook can boast about following the revelation of its latest earnings report.
Not only is Facebook reaching new people, it continues to make more money per user. That’s a trend which is consistently defying analysts’ expectations.

The company’s earning report reveals that there are 1.1 billion daily active users on Facebook – 1.7 billion, monthly – and that over 1 billion of that figure accessed the social network from a mobile platform in the past year.
The social network posted $6.4 billion USD in revenue (up 59% year-on-year), and it bears over 60 million monthly active pages, 4 million 360-degree photographs, 2 billion searches per day, more than 300 million Instagram users (active per day) and now more than one billion people use Messenger and WhatsApp, respectively.
The earnings report revealed that Facebook’s mobile ad revenue was up 81% year-on-year – a figure which is likely to grow as it reaches more people through Free Basics and initiatives such as its Aquila drone.
Live Video continues to be Facebook’s darling – CEO Mark Zuckberg stated, during the release of Facebook’s earnings report, that “We’re particularly pleased with our progress in video as we move towards a world where video is at the heart of all our services.”
Zuckerberg cited that Facebook will continue to focus on video production to get a leg up over its competitors such as Snapchat and YouTube. The company open-sourced its Surround 360 video camera this year, which could lead to the creation of more Facebook-centric content.
