Here’s how to download the Pokemon Go APK, install it, and play on an Android-based device in South Africa – join in the fun!
Pokemon Go is yet to officially arrive in South Africa, though that doesn’t mean you can’t install and play the game regardless! With this short how-to guide, we’ll walk you through downloading and installing the Pokemon Go APK!
To run the game, you’ll need an Android device running Android 4.4 KitKat and above. Note that devices running experimental builds of Android N are not presently supported.
Without further ado, let’s begin!
Download the Pokemon Go APK
To begin, we’ll need to download the Pokemon Go APK from a reputable vendor. An APK file is essentially a ‘packaged’ app which is available outside of an app store, such as the Google Play Store.
To begin, launch your favourite browser on your Android device and head here. You’ll want to click on the ‘Download APK’ button underneath the text “Verified safe to install”.
Once clicked, the APK file will begin to download to your device. Take note of where the file downloads, as we’ll want to access it later.
Install the Pokemon Go APK file
To install the Pokemon Go APK file, we’re going to practice what is known as side-loading. Side-loading refers to installing an application or service on an Android device outside of an app store such as the Google Play Store.
To begin installing Pokemon Go, first head to Settings and enable Installations from Unknown Sources. Where this setting is might depend on your brand of Android device. Traditionally, this is found under Settings, and then Security or Applications. Once you’ve enabled this option, we can proceed.
Head to the folder where the Pokemon Go APK downloaded to, and tap to launch. Select “Install” when prompted, and confirm if faced with an authorization request.
Wait while Pokemon Go installs.
Launch and play Pokemon Go!
Once the Pokemon Go APK has successfully installed, you can proceed to open the game and enable permissions. Once done, you’ll have a working copy of the game that’s now a worldwide sensation!
