Huawei P9 Leica camera leaked ahead of launch

Ahead of its official launch, the Huawei P9 has once again been leaked, this time displaying a dual Leica camera on its rear panel.

The formal release of the Huawei P9 might be less than 48 hours away, but a new leak has once again pictured the rear of the device, this time picturing a dual Leica camera sitting atop the smartphone’s rear panel.
Huawei has previously indicated its intent to produce a powerful camera smartphone, and if the latest leak is accurate, it would seem the Chinese manufacturer has arranged a surprise collaboration with one of the world’s foremost imaging brands.

The leak alleges that the P9’s rear snapper – which would incorporate a dual-lens setup with a 12 megapixel sensor – would be produced and manufactured by Leica.
The leaked image further offers that the P9’s dual lens set up would include Summarit lenses and an aperture set at f/2.2. In comparative terms, those specifications would position the P9 as a direct competitor to the iPhone 6s.
Huawei’s Deputy Chairman Guo Ping has previously hinted in press statements that Huawei as a company “œ…need(s) to work with the strongest partners to provide the best product”. Huawei’s decision to partner with Leica in this regard will likely appeal to smartphone photographers seeking DSLR-like image quality.
Previously, a massive leak courtesy of retailer Oppomart revealed that the P9 will arrive with a 5.2“³ screen and QHD display, a Kirin 950 chipset alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, complemented by a 3,000mAh battery and USB Type C.
Up until now, little has been known about the P9’s camera set up save for the fact that its rear unit would incorporate a dual-lens configuration.
