Sony announces the PlayStation VR's release date, price

Sony took to the stage at GDC to announce the final release date of its much-anticipated PlayStation VR, as well as its intended retail price

Where Sony once took to the stage at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) to first announce PlayStation VR (then Project Morpheus) the company has come full circle to finally unveil the VR headset’s release date and price.
Aimed squarely at the likes of HTC’s Vive or the Oculus Rift, the PlayStation VR is set to be the proprietary virtual reality hardware component for the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation-exclusive headset is set to retail at $399 USD, and will roll-out worldwide come October this year. While expensive, Sony has managed to undercut its rivals significantly; HTC’s Vive is set to retail for $600 USD, while Oculus Rift will be positioned 200 dollars higher than that at $800 USD.
Andrew House, the President of Sony America, confirmed that over 230 developers are presently working on games for PlayStation VR, continuing to punt that “Fear. Exhilaration. Power. … These are just a few of the emotions gamers will experience in the launch line-up of games for the PlayStation VR.”
The PlayStation VR is set to include a 5.7″ 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate; giving gamers a 100-degree field of view that can be manipulated through either using a DualShock 4 or PlayStation Move controller.
A Star Wars: Battlefront experience is set to be one of the headline titles gamers will be able to see on the PlayStation VR, amongst 50 other titles Sony has promised will release this year.
