Samsung took to the internet on National Pi Day to reveal its new experimental Waffle social network, which is all about online storytelling.
It’s a name that’s enough to make us peckish; Samsung has revealed its new Waffle social network, which has originated out of the company’s experimental C-Lab.
Described as a ‘platform’, the Waffle social network – as punted by Samsung – “offers a new, differentiated service that illustrates multiple points of view to generate a collaborative story.”

The premise behind the social network is that instead of uploading one singular piece of media at at time – such as a picture to Instagram – users could upload an image and have friends join in by adding media such as a video, photo, or drawing to the original post that will display in a waffle-like grid.
Joseph Kim, Samsung’s creative lead for the project, explained that “Waffle enables users to add their own perspective to someone else’s content, and vice versa.”
The Waffle grid is able to grow to an infinite extent, and can expand in every direction – something Samsung likes to liken to a ‘communal graffiti wall’.
Rather than have a full public wall, users will be able to restrict the service to simply interact with friends.
Presently, the Waffle app has been released in beta on Android, though there’s no indication as to whether Samsung have plans to continue the service or pursue a cross-platform rollout. Presently, the app isn’t available in the South African Google Play Store.
Until Waffle reaches a wider audience, you can see some of the social network in the video below.
