Health benefits aside, we take a look at the practicalities of vaping in our Twisp Edge review

Every now and again we like to look into something a little different here on Bandwidth Blog.
There is no doubt that the vaping craze has hit South Africa true and well. The exact science is still out with regards to the health benefits of vaping over smoking, but it has also become somewhat of a statement of style, especially here in Cape Town. Twisp is at the forefront of this movement, and was the first and is still by far the largest company of its kind in South Africa.

So we decided to take a dive into vaping. Right off the bat, my disclaimer of sorts ““ I am not and have never been a smoker so I cannot comment on how vaping might help you. That you will find below.
Although I have never been a smoker, I heavily dabbled in the “œhubbly bubbly“ craze when I was a student, which was for a period of five years, and still to this day. The taste and experience is very reminiscent of that (or is at least the closest reference I can give for someone not having vaped before).

I‘m not advising anyone to start vaping; although possibly as a replacement for smoking or “œhubbly bubbly“

Where it is different is in the hardware. The Twisp Edge comes with a 650mAh battery, the Atomizer Tank and Base, your charging adapter, a mouthpiece and two Atomizer Heads. Don‘t fret, it‘s very simple to setup and use.

You unscrew the Atomizer Tanks from the Base, then simply remove the Atomizer Head from the Tank. The tank is held upside down and the fluid entered. The Head is what does the actual vaping and therefore is between the base (which houses the battery) and the tank. Simple to take apart and simple to put back together.
Battery life is decent as I would use it on and off during the day and recharge before going out with friends. There it would last the whole night with more heavy vaping than usual. The dial at he bottom turns to set the strength of your vapour – in otherwise, sets the amount of liquid vapourised with each pull.

The vaping itself is a treat ““ it produces great vapour and flavour. The fluid doesn‘t have the worst ingredients that cigarettes has like tar, but it still includes nicotine and sometimes propylene glycol (in smaller doses). It would be safest without these substances, but is comparable to hubbly tobacco. Just to be clear, I‘m not advising anyone to start vaping (that is not the point of our Edge Twisp review); although possibly as a replacement for smoking or “œhubbly bubbly“.
A close friend of mine smoked for many years and his testimonial for vaping reads:
“œI have vaped for 6 months now while weaning myself off cigarettes, and have completely stopped smoking for three months. I have never felt better. I don‘t get as tired as I used to, I don‘t need to take time off from work as often due to illness, and my overall health has improved markedly.“
If you ever wanted to kick other forms of smoking, vaping might be your thing. At R800, the Twisp isn‘t too expensive and the liquids (which costs R160 for 20ml) will last you a relatively long time. Depending how much you smoke, it could even be much cheaper in the long run to use.
