You can now see if your PC is VR ready

A new compatibility tool can help you determine if your PC is VR ready ahead of the pre-order release of the Oculus Rift

In our latest episode of Bandwidth Blog On Air, we posit that 2016 is set to be the year of virtual reality in-between the releases of Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, Gear VR, and the HTC Vive.
While our tech prediction may come true, it’ll be for naught if PCs around the world lack the power to run virtual reality headsets – and with the Oculus Rift finally available for pre-order, a new utility from the company will help you determine if you’re VR ready and able to run the Rift headset.
The tool performs a diagnostic scan to ensure your PC meets the relatively beefy specifications necessary to run the headset; namely, the minimum recommended specs in question are:
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
CPU: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Memory: 8GB+ RAM
Video Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
USB Ports: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 ports
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
If you’d like to check whether you’ll be able to run Oculus Rift, you can download the compatibility tool here.
The Oculus Rift is officially available for pre-order, and is priced at $600 USD.
