Haier unveils the R2-D2 moving refrigerator

Haier’s R2-D2 moving refrigerator aims to be a fully armed and operational drink serving station, and is set for reveal at CES 2016.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a party on Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge, this is for you – Haier has unveiled a fully mobile R2-D2 refrigerator perfect for hosting parties with the flair of a galaxy far, far away.
The moving refrigerator is set to tie in with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which releases globally today, the 18th of December.
The R2-D2 moving refrigerator is set to be a remote-controlled mini fridge perfect for storing several drinks, and additionally arrives with authentic lighting, projection and sound effects straight out of the Star Wars galaxy.
Haier Asia displayed a demo unit in June, with the final model set to retail for just under a million yen in Japan, or about $8,000 USD when the product finally hits market. A built-in 720p HD project will complement the setup, perfect for Star Wars marathons.
The R2-D2 refrigerator is set to be shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2016.
