Following a leak earlier this week depicting the Huawei Mate 8 from all angles, the Chinese company has officially released the follow up to the Mate 7.
Externally, the Mate 8 resembles the model depicted in leaked press renders; Huawei has opted to take it’s design language in direction inspired by the likes of the P8 and Mate S before it.
As leaked press renders have now confirmed, the Mate 8 will employ a fingerprint sensor underneath its primary camera, similarly to the Mate S, and two speaker grills surround the USB port on the device‘s bottom panel. Further, the Mate 8 will arrive in three colour configurations ““ silver, gold, and bronze.
Internally, we finally have clarity on the Mate 8’s official specifications; the Mate 8 will be powered by a Kirin 950 processor, accompanied by 4GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of internal storage. The Mate 8 will carry a 6″ 1080p display, and sport a 16 megapixel primary camera alongside an 8 megapixel selfie shooter.
The Mate 8 will retain Huawei’s signature large battery, packing in a 4,000mAh unit, and will debut with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Huawei’s EMUI 4.0 skin.
It is expected that Mate 8 will serve as the iPhone 6s Plus challenger, whereas the recently released Mate S will take on the iPhone 6s.
The premium version of the Mate 8 – which carries 128GBs of storage and 4GB of RAM – is expected to retail for $700 USD in the US – making the handset even pricier than Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge. The standard version, however, which bears 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, will be available from $480 USD.
