Xiaomi unveils the Android or Windows 10 capable Mi Pad 2

While the Huawei MediaPad M2 might have stolen our hearts at this year’s AfricaCom conference, Xiaomi have launched a competitor that might yet just win our favour; the slate like Mi Pad 2, which can run either Windows 10 or Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Mi Pad 2 was announced alongside the flagship Redmi Note 3 yesterday, and sports a nifty 2,049 x 1,536 resolution with a pixel density of 326 pixels per squared inch.
Consumers interested in purchasing the Mi Pad 2 will be able to specify which OS they would prefer to use on the device; whether it be Android 5.1 Lollipop, or Microsoft’s latest outing in the form of Windows 10.
In a 7.9″ form factor, the Mi Pad 2 totes an Intel x5-Z8500 processor, and comes armed with 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel primary camera and 5MP front-facing snapper, alongside a 6,190mAh battery.
To put icing on that cake, then, the Mi Pad 2 arrives with a reversible USB Type-C port and will cost a measly $155 USD with 16GBs of storage, and $200 USD for the 64GB variant.
Available both in Apple-aping dark grey (space grey, anyone?) and champagne gold, the Mi Pad 2 is expected to last for nearly 12 hours on a single charge despite having a width measuring in only at 7mm in width.
The Android variant of the MiPad 2 is expected to ship on November 27th, while the Windows 10 flavoured model is expected to release at some point this December.
The MiPad 2 marks the latest budget offering from the Chinese company, as the firm released the flagship Redmi Note 3 yesterday, and plans to bring the Redmi 2 and Mi 4 to South Africa under the Mobiles in Africa (MIA) group before year end.
