While Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have seen a mixed reaction from consumers and market spaces, the Korean firm looks to be making some interesting returns with the production of the forthcoming Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
While the Galaxy S6 introduced speedy Universal Flash Storage (UFS 2.0) technology, the Galaxy S7 is set to make a return to expandable storage through including a MicroSD port.
Present rumours speculate that the Galaxy S7 and its Edge sibling will be readied for imminent launch in January 2016, and will carry a 4K EDGE display (bring all guns to bear on the likes of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium) and will either carry a Snapdragon 820 or an Exynos 8990 processor.
Samsung owns the Exynos processor brand, and the Galaxy S7, where it to include an Exynos processor, would be the first flagship Samsung product to include one.
A new report cites that the Galaxy S7 Edge is set to measure 5.7″ in screen size diagonally, and will now feature both horizontal and vertical curves – which doesn’t sound too dissimilar from LG’s G Flex 2.
The Galaxy S7, however, is expected to retain a smaller 5.2″ display.
What remains uncertain is whether Samsung will opt to retain the Galaxy S Edge Plus model alongside its Note product range, or aims to introduce the Galaxy S7 alongside a larger S7 Edge from the beginning.
The company made the decision to introduce a larger version of the Edge this year alongside the launch of the Galaxy Note 5, to mixed reaction. You can hear our thoughts on the move in Episode 17 of Bandwidth Blog On Air.
