Opera released new versions of its iconic mobile browser for Android today, alongside a range of new features including video compression, installable web apps, fast downloading and improved tab switching.
As we reported earlier this year, the browser’s new compression tech enables users to access multimedia content far more quickly and will additionally compress videos embedded across the web.
Further, Opera’s redesigned browser enables users to install web apps; users can now place sites on the home screen of their device which will then open simulating an app-like experience in the browser itself.
The new browsers both include a redesigned download manager with improved notifications, and, further, tab-loading can now be done as a background task while keeping another page open above it.
Both new versions of the browser – Opera itself and its Mini version – are now available from the Google Play Store, and, according to the company, are available for well over 200 million users worldwide.
