Following three months from debut, Winbeta has reported that Windows 10 is now installed on more than 120 million desktops, laptops, and tablets.
The news reveals that Windows 10 has reached another 10 million devices following the figure of 100 million that Microsoft reported earlier this month during the company’s October Event.
While those numbers are no doubt impressive, it still falls far short of Microsoft’s long-term goal; to have Windows 10 installed on as many as 1 billion devices within 3 years of first release. For clarity, that goal includes Xbox consoles, Lumia phones, and other devices.
Speculation on current trends posits that at present pace, Microsoft may reach one billion installations of the operating system with 24 months – 12 months or more ahead of schedule.
Microsoft is further readying an update for release in November with the intent of persuading Windows XP, 7, and 8 die-hards to finally upgrade.
The update itself is centered around a new messaging app that incorporates Skype in an effort to answer Apple’s Messages and FaceTime apps on iOS and OS X respectively.
Further, Microsoft has also reported that the Windows 10 update for Xbox One consoles and Lumia phones will additionally see release in November as well.
It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will indeed reach their ultimate goal on time; though with an abundance of new products reaching the market bearing Windows 10, the odds of the company’s success seems likely.
