We‘re coming up on two months now since Samsung first mentioned the name Galaxy View back at IFA, and the image it shared of a kickstand-equipped large-format tablet sure seemed to fit right in with rumours we‘d been hearing about the company‘s plans for an 18.4-inch model. In the weeks since, we‘ve seen that name pop back up a few times, as well as taken a look at some hardware specs and checked out the tablet‘s FCC certification.
Throughout all this, while it felt like we were getting closer to wrapping our heads around what to expect from the model, we‘d still yet to get a real comprehensive look at it. Today some new renders have leaked, and they sure go a long way towards making sense out of the Galaxy View ““ including what‘s going on with that stand.
Unlike a typical fold-out, hinged kickstand, the stand on the Galaxy View will be curved. The ovular cut-out we saw in the FCC schematics is now revealed as a handle, and the way we see it used here sure seems to suggest that the curved stand is rigid.
If that‘s indeed the case, we‘d imagine the tablet isn‘t great for portability, and is instead intended to live around the home or office. That use case is further suggested by the absence of a physical home button, hinting that you won‘t be using the Galaxy View in your lap.
We‘re still waiting for any word of Samsung‘s release plans, but based on everything we‘ve seen to date, a launch before this year‘s holiday season seems likely.
