LG accidentally reveals Apple's plans for an 8K iMac

LG may have just completely jumped the gun and, without realising, revealed Apple‘s plans for their next generation iMac – or at least the display part of it in what we’ll dub the 8K iMac.

The details around Apple‘s 8K iMac display plans were leaked in a press release by LG that details their new 8K display technology, which they are calling “œQuad-Ultra High Definition.“

It was most likely not on purpose (and we‘re sure the copy editor in charge of press releases at LG has had a talking to) but the press release that was posted on the company‘s website, mentions Apple‘s plans for a 8K, high-resolution display in the new iMacs.

As we all know, LG is the display partner for Apple, so it was only natural that they would mention their new technology along with their partners. However, LG certainly didn‘t beat around the bush when it came to revealing Apple‘s plans.

The press release read:

“œ…[sic] Apple has also announced that they will release the “˜iMac 8K‘ with a super-high resolution display later this year“

While that all sounds good and well, the only problem is that that Apple did not announce anything about the new, upcoming iMac – or at least not yet.

Thus, LG has inadvertently supplied us with one of the most important features of the new iMac, which is expected to make its debut in September/October.

Last year saw the arrival of the 5K iMacs that were seriously impressive. If it is true that Apple is planning on manufacturing 8K display iMacs, the humble 5K would look small in comparison.

The super-high definition 8K display has twice the resolution of a 4K screen and four times the amount of pixels, with a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels.

While it seems that the LG press release is legitimate, as always, we can never confirm anything until we have an official announcement from Apple themselves. But we‘re sure hoping that this report is true!
