At the beginning of this year, we heard of another new mobile operating system that will see the light, called Tizen. It was supposed to be launched near the end of 2013, but now we hear it is ready to be unveiled in February 2014, at the Mobile World Congress. Tizen comes from Japan‘s largest mobile communication company, NTT Docomo Inc., and is being developed to compete against the all dominant Android and iOS platforms.
We also know that Tizen is working closely with Samsung on the project as they are banking on the support of Samsung‘s market reach and marketing nous. We have already seen an example of a Galaxy S4 running an early version of Tizen.
Tizen is a relatively new operating system which will be featured on a wide range of devices, from smartphones and tablets to automotive computer systems, but it’s been pretty quiet thus far, only getting into the hands of developers and just a couple of cameras available for general consumers.
We can‘t wait to see what MWC 2014 has in store for us.
