Rumour: Is HTC developing their own smartwatch?

There is a rumour doing the rounds that HTC is in the process of developing an Android smartwatch. This might indeed be true, as the Taiwanese company has been struggling as of late.
According to Bloomberg, the planned smartwatch might be released by the end of next year.
Obviously, no official statement has been made by HTC themselves, but Bloomberg claims an unamed source is talking about the company‘s smartwatch plans.
HTC also revealed to the Financial Times that they were working with Microsoft on a smartwatch a couple of years ago, so their smartwatch plans aren‘t completely unfounded.
Apparently, HTC‘s smartwatch will run on Android have a camera – and that‘s about all information available now.
As suspected, HTC is keeping mum (but not completely ruling out) about the smartwatch rumours.
A spokesperson for the comapany said they have nothing specific to announce at present, but that HTC will continue “œbeing a leader in bringing new form factors to market.“
It is no rumour, however, that HTC currently find themself in a bit of hot water. With the market dominance of Apple and Samsung, other smartphone manufacturers are struggling to step up to the plate.
Samsung, on the other hand, announced it‘s Galaxy Gear smartwatch last month – with a very clever marketing campaign in tow.
The Galaxy Gear features a 1.9 mega-pixel camera and a voice control function.
With HTC’s slogan reading ‘quietly brilliant’, we might never know what they’re planning.
Only time will tell if the rumours of a smartwatch are to be confirmed – but it might not be a bad idea for business.
