Campaign started to raise funds for forgotten Twitter co-founder

It seems that Nick Bilton‘s upcoming book, “˜Hatching Twitter‘, has already stirred some controversy even though it is yet to be released.
As we reported last week, Nick Bilton – a columnist and reporter for the New York Times – will launch his highly anticipated book on November 5th. The book chronicles that “˜hatching‘ period of Twitter and the friendships and subsequent betrayal that went with it.
And now it seems that many people who read the extract of Bilton‘s book featured in the New York Times, are trying to help one of Twitter‘s long lost co-founders, Noah Glass.
According to Bilton‘s book, Noah Glass was one of the first founding members of Twitter, but was somehow removed from the company completely. Glass is only credited as one of the co-founders but does not serve on the company‘s board.
A campaign, created by a Matthew Dieters, now aims to raise funds for the forgotten founder as a way of saying “˜thank you‘.
The campaign has been created on CrowdTilt. CrowdTilt is a newly founded, group-funding platform that allows it‘s users to create and manage fundraising campaigns for various non-profit organizations.
On the campaign page, which is titled “˜Let‘s thank Noah Glass for helping make Twitter‘, Dieters writes: “œThis is a thanks to Noah who will not see the fruits of his labor when Twitter IPOs“
Of course, Twitter has recently filed for their IPO, that will see the social networking company follow in the footsteps of Facebook and go public.
Dieters continues saying that Glass is not upset about Twitter‘s IPO. In fact, Glass has apparently taken it all in good faith, by wishing the Twitter team “œthe best of luck“ and “œsuccess“ upon their IPO announcement.
Dieters ends off by saying: “œLet’s come together to change that, and give Noah a token of “thanks” for the tool he helped create for us.”
Without Noah, Twitter as we know it would not exist today – this is how we can express appreciation!“
To date, the campaign has raised $635 for Noah. It‘s eventual goal is $1 million and there are 32 days remaining for the campaign to raise the intended funds.
It is also said that all funds will be distributed to Glass if the campaign “˜tilts‘. The campaign‘s “˜tilt‘ figure has been set at $10 000. This means that only once the campaign reaches $10 000, will any money be distributed to Glass.
With Twitter reportedly being worth an estimated $20 billion, one million would surely be a small prize for the man that helped create an empire.
