Going.co.za – is it really that much cheaper?

There is a new online trade and wholesale platform that might change the way many South Africans buy wholesale products – and they claim their prices will be the best too.
Sound too good to be true? Perhaps. Going.co.za, is a new online retail store that aims to sell an array of products in bulk to various resellers and retailers.
Going.co.za was developed by the Australian online retailer, DealersDirect Group and partnered with South African BEE group, Amabubesi Holdings.
One of the more high-profile executives behind the new e-commerce startup, is the current chairman of the Vodacom Group, Mr. Peter Moyo.
The website will provide people with the opportunity to purchase excess inventory, refurbished goods, returned items and other “˜hard-to-sell‘ products. These include electronics, clothing, toys, stationery and sports equipment.
Chairman of Going.co.za, Paul Greenberg, believes there is quite a gap in the South African market for wholesalers, distributors and retailers to connect with manufacturers and resellers from China and other supply hubs.
Greenberg said: “œ(Going.co.za) is focusing on selling bulk in lots of various sizes, allowing the likes of resellers such as retailers, both formal and informal, to acquire discounted trading stock at opportunistic prices.“
This new website forms part of a growing initiative, turned industry, built on the premise of selling products that won‘t sell in stores or on major online retail websites.
This not only helps this growing industry, but also the stores and other wholesalers by getting rid of unwanted and unneeded stock.
However, with a tough market and stiff competition emerging, Going.co.za will have to rely heavily on their discounts offered on wholesale goods. Because they are a wholesale retailer, their initial prices should be much lower than normal retail prices.
Below is a comparison of Going.co.za‘s prices compared to current retail prices:

Hisense 55 inch Full HD Active 3D Smart LED TV
Store Price
Going R11,750
Makro R12,999
Hisense 220L Metallic Top Freezer Combi Fridge
Going R2,250
Hi-Fi Corp R2,399
Hisense Metallic Bottom Freezer Combi Fridges with Water Dispenser
Makro R3,499
Going R3,500
Hi-Fi Corp R3,999
Hisense 50 inch Full HD Active 3D Smart LED TV
Going R8,000
Hi-Fi Corp R10,999
Defy 210L Chest Freezer
Going R1,800

So, as you can see, the price difference is really not that great. It might be beneficial when buying in bulk, but a few hundred rand here and there is not really that MUCH cheaper.
