According to The Verge, citing a recent report by the Financial Times, Google is supposedly hopping onto the smart watch bandwagon.
The wearable device is also reportedly being developed in Google’s Android unit rather than its experimental laboratory (where Google Glass was developed) indicating that the company sees it as a more “viable product” that can potentially be sold to the mass market.
However, Google will be joining the likes of Apple, who have until now, only been rumoured to be developing such a device. On the contrary, Samsung has confirmed that a smart watch has been in development for quite some time and that they are getting ready to bring it to market as soon as possible.
The Financial Times also reports that Google’s watch will be completely different from Samsung’s version.
Much like Apple, while Google has yet to comment on the rumour, a patent application made in 2011 for a wearable computer describes a smart watch with a dual-screened “flip-up display” and “tactile user interface”.
