Man these WooThemes guys are on fire. While not simply content with selling first class themes for WordPress online, they are now pushing into premium plugins market as well. Woothemes currently has over 50,000 paying clients, and is also a premium theme supplier to WordPress.com. Their latest offering, WooCommerce, currently fills a gap in the market – not in the e-commerce market, but rather in terms of easy integration with WordPress.
WooCommerce will enable users to easily and efficiently build e-commerce focussed websites, which slots into a variety of payment gateways. Right now WooCommerce is not a simple plugin for existing themes, but rather a catalogue of new themes which built specifically for WordPress. The developer can have their WooCommerce as simple or as complicated as needed. These additional features are sold as extensions – for example if you want to ship products at different shipping rates, simply get the “Per Product Shipping” extension. Same for instant credit card payments or Paypal integration.
If you are someone who wants to sell from your wordpress based site, you might want to give WooCommerce a go. Right now WooThemes is making it pretty easy with a free Wootique theme which is WooCommerce enabled. If you want to try it out, go to http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/. If you are a Woothemes Club member you already have access to the WooCommerce themes. But if you want to use the extensions (like the different gateway or shipment tools), you will have to pay for that.
