The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC’s) free streaming platform, SABC+, has officially passed the three-million registered user mark, solidifying its position as one of the country’s leading digital entertainment hubs. According to the public broadcaster, these registered profiles represent a fully logged-in, consented audience rather than transient web traffic. This distinction enables SABC+ to deliver personalized viewing experiences while offering advertisers direct access to high-value, first-party audience data across its integrated lineup of live television, radio streams, video-on-demand, catch-up viewing, and interactive digital content.

The platform’s user expansion has gathered notable momentum since a strategic relaunch in July 2024 reset its user counter. SABC+ crossed its first one million registered users roughly a year after the relaunch before reaching 1.5 million profiles by October 2025.
Surging adoption throughout 2026 has significantly compressed these milestone intervals. The platform reached 2.15 million registered users by late March 2026 and added nearly another million profiles over the following four months to reach three million users as of August 3, 2026.
This growth trajectory has substantially outperformed the broadcaster’s initial commercial forecasts. During a presentation to Parliament regarding the SABC’s fourth-quarter performance for the 2025/26 financial year, SABC CEO Nomsa Chabeli highlighted the platform’s momentum, noting that SABC+ closed out the fiscal year at 2.15 million users, exceeding its annual target of 1.4 million by 54%.
Commenting on the milestone, Sibusiso Gumbi, SABC head of marketing for platforms and channels, stated that the user growth reflects deep consumer trust in the platform’s local content catalogue. Gumbi noted that as the audience base expands, it enhances the broadcaster’s ability to connect commercial partners and brands with highly engaged viewers through data-driven advertising solutions. SABC management confirmed it will continue focusing on expanding content availability, refining the user experience, and building commercial value across its digital ecosystem.
