PlayStation has announced Project Defiant, a new arcade-style fighting stick that appears perfectly suited for games like the recently revealed Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Sony teased the device during Wednesday’s State of Play, then shared more details in a blog post, confirming the controller will offer wireless connectivity to both PS5 and PC via PlayStation Link technology.

Sony highlights PlayStation Link’s “ultra-low latency” capabilities, promising incredibly precise responses to button presses and stick movements. For those who prefer a wired connection, there’s also an option to plug the controller directly into your device using a USB-C cable.
The fighting stick features a digital stick custom-designed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, along with buttons equipped with mechanical switches. It also includes a touchpad, similar to the one found on a DualSense wireless controller, and interchangeable restrictor gates (square, circle, and octagon) for customizable stick movement.
Project Defiant will come with a carrying case that includes a lever gap to ensure the digital stick remains safe during transport. Sony plans to release the controller in 2026 and will reveal more details, including its official name, in the coming months.
