Microsoft launches Copilot for Gaming beta on mobile

Microsoft is officially rolling out the beta version of its Copilot for Gaming app today, making the intelligent gaming assistant available on mobile devices. First announced earlier this year, Copilot for Gaming aims to help players improve their skills and speed. The new mobile app allows users to ask the assistant questions about in-game strategy and controls using either voice or text. Players can also request game recommendations and get specific information about their Xbox accounts and subscriptions.

AI-assisted gaming has become a hot topic, with companies like Microsoft and Razer venturing into the space. These tools could eventually replace traditional strategy guides, offering real-time assistance for challenging game sections or providing tactical advice during complex multiplayer scenarios like MMORPG raids.

The mobile launch is designed to create a “second screen” experience for players while they game on their Xbox. Taylor O’Malley, principal program manager at Xbox, explained, “The companion knows what game you’re playing and understands your Xbox activity, so it can answer any questions about the games you’re interested in, provide links to more information when its response includes web sources or answer questions based on your account, play history and achievements.”

The early preview of Copilot for Gaming is initially accessible through the beta version of the Xbox app in over 50 regions. Both Android and iOS users who already have the Xbox beta app downloaded will be able to provide feedback by rating responses and flagging incorrect information. For Android users without the beta app, it’s available via the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, iOS users who don’t already have the Xbox beta app installed will not be able to download it for this preview. Microsoft also confirmed that the Copilot for Gaming beta will soon arrive on Game Bar for Windows PCs, with broader availability planned for the full Xbox app in the future.
