Nvidia unveils budget RTX 5060 series with DLSS 4 focus

NVIDIA has announced its budget-friendly GeForce RTX 50-series, with the RTX 5060 starting at $299 – the same launch price as the RTX 4060 two years prior. However, real-world pricing may vary due to market volatility and potential tariff fluctuations.

The company is also launching two RTX 5060 Ti variants, offering 8GB and 16GB of VRAM, priced at $379 and $429, respectively. These faster GPUs will be available today, April 16th, while the RTX 5060 is slated for a May release.

Beyond typical performance gains, the key selling point for the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti will be their full support for DLSS 4 upscaling and 4X multi-frame generation. Reviews of higher-end RTX 50-series cards have shown significant frame rate improvements with DLSS 4 while maintaining excellent image quality. The effectiveness of this technology on lower-end cards remains to be seen.

While full specifications are yet to be released, NVIDIA has disclosed that the RTX 5060 features 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, 19 TFLOPS of Blackwell shader cores, 5th-gen tensor cores with 614 AI TOPS, and 4th-gen RT cores reaching 58 TFLOPS. Unofficial reports suggest 3,840 CUDA cores, a notable increase over the RTX 4060’s 3072 CUDA cores and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM.

The RTX 5060 Ti steps up to 4,608 CUDA cores with 8GB and 16GB GDDR7 options. NVIDIA claims a 6 TFLOPS performance increase in its Blackwell shader cores compared to the 5060. The RTX 5060 is positioned as a 1080p-focused card, while the RTX 5060 Ti is better suited for 1440p gaming.

NVIDIA’s benchmarks indicate the RTX 5060 can achieve 234 fps in Hogwarts Legacy (1080p, max settings, 4X frame-gen) compared to the RTX 4060’s 110 fps (1X frame-gen). The 5060 is also shown to reach 148 fps in Cyberpunk 2077, 220 fps in Avowed, and 330 fps in Marvel Rivals (all 1080p, max settings, frame-gen).

For the RTX 5060 Ti (1440p, Full RT, 4X frame-gen), NVIDIA reports 108 fps in Cyberpunk 2077, double the RTX 4060 Ti’s 52 fps (1X frame-gen). DLSS 4’s transformer upscaling is also said to improve image quality and reduce latency. In Hogwarts Legacy (1440p, native), the 5060 Ti reaches 61 fps with 70ms latency, which improves to 171 fps and 47ms with DLSS 4 enabled.

A mobile version of the RTX 5060 for laptops is also on the way, starting at $1,099. While specs are unavailable, NVIDIA claims it can achieve 146 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p, ultra, 2X frame-gen), significantly higher than the mobile RTX 4060’s 60 fps (1X frame-gen).

The ultimate success of the RTX 5060 family will depend on real-world pricing, which is influenced by OEMs and market conditions. It also remains to be seen how AMD will respond in the budget segment following the strong performance of their Radeon RX 9070 series.
