Google-owned YouTube is raising the price of YouTube Premium in South Africa to R81.99 per month, an almost 14% increase. Despite this, the price remains lower than in many other markets, including the US.

YouTube Premium offers ad-free video access and includes YouTube Music, a competitor to Spotify and Apple Music.
The YouTube Premium Family plan will see a significant 36.4% price hike, increasing from R109.99 to R149.99 per month.
In an email to subscribers on Friday morning, YouTube stated, “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to R81.99/month… this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
Standalone YouTube Music subscriptions will also increase by 8.3%, from R59.99 to R64.99 per month. The YouTube Music Family plan will rise by 11.1%, from R89.99 to R99.99 per month.
These price adjustments are scheduled to take effect from the middle of the year, according to customer communications.
