This decision follows a year of reported issues by iPhone users, including broken voice commands. Waze states the feature has “not been working as intended for over a year” and opts for phasing it out rather than patching it.
While Google Assistant remains on Android, its long-term viability within Waze is uncertain. Google is transitioning users to Gemini, and “classic Google Assistant” will be phased out on most mobile devices later this year, with app store downloads ceasing.
Waze has already begun testing Gemini, which allows users to report traffic incidents using natural language.
