Apple’s plans for a cheaper, plastic-shelled Apple Watch SE are facing significant challenges. After a no-show at last year’s September event, reports indicate “cost and quality” issues with the design. Now, Mark Gurman suggests the project is “in serious jeopardy.”

“The design team doesn’t like the look, and the operations team is finding it difficult to make the casing materially cheaper than the current aluminium chassis,” Gurman reports.
With the second-generation Apple Watch SE over two years old and feeling “bland,” a refresh is needed. However, the anticipated plastic version may not materialize.
