Twitch imposes 100 hour limit for creator uploads

Twitch is implementing a significant change to its video storage policy, introducing a 100-hour storage limit for streamer uploads and highlight videos, effective April 19th. This new cap applies to all uploaded content and highlights, regardless of publication status. Notably, past broadcasts (saved livestreams) and clips (short, shareable segments) are exempt from this limit.

Highlights, which can be longer and more comprehensive than clips, have been identified as a storage-intensive feature that has not met its initial goal of driving discovery and engagement. Twitch explained that the high cost of storage necessitates this change, allowing them to focus on improving more effective features like clips and the mobile discovery feed.

The company stated that less than 0.5% of active streamers exceed the 100-hour limit, and those affected will receive direct notification. To facilitate content management, Twitch has introduced new filters in the Video Producer section, enabling streamers to sort videos by length, view count, and creation date.

On April 19th, Twitch will begin deleting videos that surpass the 100-hour limit, and future uploads and highlights will be subject to this new restriction.

This policy shift reflects Twitch’s efforts to balance storage costs with the continued development of its platform and features.
