Instagram is testing a new feature designed to improve the quality of comments on its platform. The feature, revealed by Instagram Head Adam Mosseri on Threads, introduces a new button next to the like button on comments. This button allows users to privately signal that they don’t feel good about a particular comment without publicly displaying their disapproval.

While the exact functionality is still under development, the goal is to utilize these user signals to subtly influence the comment ranking algorithm. Comments that receive a significant number of “dislikes” may be positioned lower in the comment section, potentially creating a more positive and engaging comment experience for all users.
“We’re working on ways to help people better control their Instagram experience and what they’re seeing on the app,” said Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai.
This new feature is currently being tested with a limited group of users. Instagram emphasizes that the “dislike” signals will remain private, and there will be no public display of dislike counts.
The introduction of this new feature reflects Instagram’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and create a more positive and inclusive environment within the platform.
