The upcoming model, likely to be named “ID.One,” will be based on the ID. Life concept unveiled in 2021. This announcement follows the company’s previous mention of an “ID.1” model, slated for a 2027 release, which aligns with the anticipated launch timeline of this new entry-level EV.
Volkswagen also reiterated its plans to launch the ID. 2all, another affordable EV priced around €25,000. Both models will utilize a new version of the company’s modular battery platform, currently used in the ID.4 and ID. Buzz.
These developments come as Volkswagen seeks to reduce costs across its operations. The company recently reached a labour deal in Germany that will result in 35,000 fewer jobs and significant cost savings.
This focus on affordability is crucial for the widespread adoption of EVs. With the ID.1 and ID.2all, Volkswagen aims to make electric mobility accessible to a broader range of consumers, further solidifying its position in the growing EV market.
