This launch follows the UK’s approval of Meatly’s production of cultivated meat for pet food in July 2024, making it the first European country to greenlight such a product. Meatly believes this marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and ethical future for the pet food industry.
The Chick Bites are a blend of plant-based ingredients and Meatly’s lab-grown chicken, produced from a single chicken egg cell. The company emphasizes that its cultivated meat is nutritionally equivalent to traditional chicken breast, containing essential amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins.
Pets at Home, a major investor in Meatly, recognizes the potential of cultivated meat to reduce the environmental impact of pet food production. While this initial launch is limited, Meatly plans to expand production and distribution in collaboration with The Pack and Pets at Home, aiming for broader availability within three to five years.
This milestone for Meatly demonstrates the growing potential of cultivated meat. While human consumption of cultivated meat remains subject to regulatory approvals in many parts of the world, this launch signifies a significant step forward for the industry and its potential to revolutionize the food system.
