The announcement came during Xbox’s recent Developer Direct livestream, offering a fresh look at this intriguing prequel. Set centuries before the events of Doom Eternal and the 2016 reboot, The Dark Ages transports players to a medieval realm where the Doomslayer will face a new breed of demonic threats.

The developers have emphasized a deeper narrative experience with a larger world and more cinematic cutscenes. However, the most significant changes lie in gameplay. Melee combat takes centre stage, with players wielding brutal medieval weapons like spiked maces and iron flails. The scale of encounters has also been amplified, with the introduction of a cybernetic dragon mount and a colossal mech suit designed to combat kaiju-sized enemies.

Accessibility is a key focus, with a suite of gameplay sliders allowing players to adjust game speed, parry timing, and other parameters to their preference. This provides a customizable experience, catering to both casual and hardcore players.

Doom: The Dark Ages promises to deliver a unique and challenging Doom experience, blending classic fast-paced action with medieval fantasy elements.
