At CES 2025, Hyundai Mobis unveiled a groundbreaking holographic windshield display (HWD) technology, poised to revolutionize the in-car experience. This innovative system, utilizing a combination of advanced projectors and a specialized optical film embedded within the windshield, projects high-resolution, 3D information directly onto the driver’s field of view.

Unlike traditional HUDs, which project information onto a small area of the windshield, Hyundai Mobis’ HWD utilizes multiple projectors to create distinct display zones for the driver and passengers. The driver’s zone displays vital information such as speed, navigation, and real-time 3D maps that dynamically adjust based on the vehicle’s position.
The passenger zone offers an independent viewing experience, allowing passengers to enjoy entertainment content, access vehicle information, or even cast content from their personal devices. The system’s design ensures minimal distraction for the driver by limiting the visibility of the passenger display zone.
This cutting-edge technology represents a significant advancement in automotive display technology, offering a more immersive and intuitive driving experience. While BMW has also demonstrated a similar technology with its Panoramic iDrive system, Hyundai Mobis’ HWD may offer a more seamless and less intrusive experience due to its transparent optical film.
Hyundai Mobis plans to begin production of its HWD system in 2027, marking a significant step towards the future of in-car infotainment.
