ChatGPT gains scheduling capabilities with new Tasks feature

OpenAI has introduced a new beta feature called Tasks for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers. This innovative feature allows users to schedule future actions and reminders within the chatbot interface, transforming ChatGPT into a more comprehensive digital assistant.

Users can now instruct ChatGPT to perform specific actions at designated times. This includes setting daily reminders, scheduling appointments, and even requesting simple tasks like telling jokes to children at bedtime. ChatGPT can also proactively suggest tasks based on user interactions, although user approval is required before any task is scheduled.

Tasks can be managed directly within the chat interface or through a dedicated “Tasks” section accessible via the web profile. Users can easily modify or cancel scheduled tasks, and upon completion, receive notifications across web, desktop, and mobile devices.

This new functionality represents a significant shift for ChatGPT, moving beyond real-time conversations to encompass proactive task management and future planning. While the feature is currently limited to paying subscribers, it highlights OpenAI’s ambition to expand ChatGPT’s capabilities beyond a simple chatbot and into a more comprehensive AI assistant.

However, the reliability and long-term implications of these scheduled tasks remain to be seen. While promising, the feature is still in beta, and users should exercise caution when relying on it for critical or time-sensitive tasks.

For now, if you’re a paying ChatGPT user, you can start experimenting with Tasks by looking for the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in your model picker. Just remember that it’s still in beta — so maybe don’t rely on it for that super important meeting reminder just yet.
