Philips Hue users will soon have the ability to create custom lighting scenes powered by AI, the company announced on Tuesday.

The new generative AI lighting assistant allows users to design personalized scenes tailored to occasions, moods, or styles. By typing commands like “Create a scene for a garden party” or using voice prompts, users can request specific lighting setups. The assistant can recommend scenes from Philips Hue’s existing gallery or generate entirely new ones. It can also adjust settings for existing lights, such as brightness and colour.

The announcement follows an October report from Hueblog, which revealed Philips Hue’s development of an “AI Playground” that creates scenes based on typed text like “Design a scene for a children’s birthday party.” However, the earlier report didn’t mention voice functionality, which is now confirmed.

Philips Hue joins competitors like Govee and Nanoleaf in offering AI-powered lighting customization. Govee’s AI Lighting Bot also supports dynamic lighting effects and voice commands, while Nanoleaf’s “Magic Scenes” feature generates scenes from short text prompts.

Philips Hue has confirmed its AI assistant will be compatible with all its lights and will roll out in the first quarter of 2025.

In addition to the AI assistant, Philips Hue announced several other updates. The Philips Hue Sync TV app now supports LG TVs, expanding its entertainment integration. The Philips Hue Datura ceiling light, priced at $299.99, is now available in the US. This frameless ceiling panel features two independently controllable lights and customizable colour effects.

Philips Hue also introduced new smart home security features, including smoke alarm sound detection and live camera streaming to Amazon Alexa and Google Nest Hub. Users can now view live camera feeds or schedule settings directly from their devices, enhancing the Hue ecosystem’s versatility.
