Eli Health Hormometer wand tests cortisol and progesterone

Living in the modern world often feels incredibly stressful. While stress itself may not be unprecedented, our ability to constantly monitor its impact on our bodies has significantly increased. At CES 2025, Eli Health introduced Hormometer, an at-home test kit designed to measure cortisol and progesterone levels.

Hormometer utilizes a simple wand that collects saliva samples. After a 20-minute incubation period, the cartridge displays results in a color-coded format, which can be analysed using a smartphone app. The app, leveraging user data, aims to provide personalized health recommendations. However, the collection and use of this sensitive health data raise significant privacy concerns, particularly in the US.

Cortisol, often referred to as the “stress hormone,” plays a crucial role in the body’s response to stress. Elevated cortisol levels can weaken the immune system, accelerate muscle loss, and hinder bone growth.

Progesterone, essential for reproductive health, regulates the menstrual cycle and supports pregnancy. Imbalances in progesterone levels can increase the risk of complications such as ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage.

While saliva testing technology has been explored previously, Hormometer aims to enhance accessibility and affordability. The company plans to expand its testing capabilities beyond cortisol and progesterone to include testosterone and estradiol.

Hormometer will be available for purchase in the US and Canada starting January 2025, with various subscription options available, including a yearly plan with individual tests priced at $8.
