According to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, Apple is developing a cutting-edge smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID technology. This innovative device, slated for a potential release by the end of 2025, aims to unlock your door seamlessly by recognizing your face.

Similar to iPhone’s biometric security, the doorbell camera will incorporate Apple’s Secure Enclave chip, ensuring that Face ID data is processed and stored securely, separate from the main system.
Gurman suggests that the camera will likely be compatible with existing third-party HomeKit smart locks. Additionally, Apple may collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to offer a comprehensive, integrated system from the outset.
The doorbell camera is expected to leverage Apple’s in-house “Proxima” chip, a combination Wi-Fi/Bluetooth solution rumoured for the upcoming HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.
This development aligns with Apple’s reported renewed focus on the smart home, centred around its “Apple Intelligence” initiative. Other rumoured projects include a new smart home camera, a potential Apple-branded television, and innovative smart home displays. These displays are envisioned in two distinct forms: a simple, iPad-like device that magnetically attaches to various surfaces, and a more advanced model featuring a robotic arm for enhanced mobility.
